There's Treasure Everywhere
If you haven't heard, we had an earthquake yesterday. The epicenter was north of us somewhere near Los Angeles, but we felt it a bit down here.

It was a moderate sized earthquake, but to hear the news you would have thought we were on the brink of falling into the ocean. I was trying to listen to Dr. Laura on the radio, and I had to endure an hour of "continuous live coverage" of the earthquake. The reporters actually seemed disappointed that there were no reports of damage or injuries.

As there was nothing too newsworthy, most of the hour was spent having people call in and share their harrowing stories. It was call after call of people basically saying, "I totally felt the earthquake." The radio guys kept asking, "Did you see any damage...did anything fall off the walls?" And the answer was always, "Uh...no."

One caller must have been new to the whole earthquake experience. At one point he said, "We didn't know when [the earthquake] was going to end, but thankfully, it did." The poor guy was under the impression that not all earthquakes end. I can see why he was a little freaked!

For those of you who have read my blog for over a year, you know my summer time blogging is spotty at best. I'm not going to lie, I have really enjoyed my unannounced blogging break---well, except for the guilty feelings.

Our summer has been busy, busy, busy. Let me explain...no, let me sum up (bonus points to the person who recognizes that quote).

My sister is home from college so that's always a huge summer treat. She often stops by on her way home from work. Joey loves "Rae-Rae," and even calls out for her when he's supposed to be napping.

Andy and I went to my 10-year high school reunion a couple of weeks ago. I was really excited about it, but people warned me that the 10-year reunion can be kind of awkward because people are still pretty immature. We ended up having a really fun time, and everyone that I talked to was very friendly and excited to be there.

We didn't think we were going to have an official vacation this summer, but then we found out at the last minute that Andy's brother, Timmy was visiting his parents from Philadelphia. Thankfully, we just had to reschedule a couple of things and then we were off to Phoenix. Andy, Timmy, and their friend, Dave Logan basically held a video game convention for the weekend with periodic swimming breaks. We all had a great time.

We've had lots of visitors this summer, which is a great part of living in San Diego. Our good friends from Albuquerque stayed with us for a couple of nights, Dave Logan came over for the 4th of July weekend, and a friend I taught with in Albuquerque stopped by with her husband earlier this week. It was so fun catching up with old friends.

Joey is developing by leaps and bounds. How fascinating it is to watch a little person grow up! Potty training is going really well. I feel pretty confident he'll be fully potty trained (during the day) by the time he turns two. He also says more and more words all the time. The most recent thing he likes to say is, "song," when requesting a bedtime lullaby. Sometimes he even says, "la-la song," so instead of singing words I am supposed to just sing, "La la la..."

As our summer continues, I'm sure it will stay busy. I'm hoping to get back to fairly consistent blogging, so hopefully I will post pictures soon!
We have a patch of empty soil in our backyard, and I thought I would try my hand at gardening. I had visions of having a cute, thriving, little vegetable garden. I started with something I thought would be pretty easy-carrots. I bought a packet and planted all the seeds as directed. The packet said to thin the carrot seedlings well to make sure the carrots have enough room and nutrients. Well, I think I was over zealous because after planting hundreds of seeds, I ended up with 4 wimpy carrots. It brings a whole new meaning to baby carrots.
I had a couple of posts a while ago about Joey helping me around the house. "Yo Mama" even commented that Joey better be getting an allowance. Well, Joey is at it again. This time he was outside helping Andy set up our new picnic table.

We got an amazing deal on patio furniture last summer, only to have it all break and find out that set was being recalled, so we were looking for a replacement. Andy had always wanted a picnic table, but the ones we found were surprisingly expensive. My Dad mentioned that he had seen one at Home Depot that you put together called a 5-Minute Picnic Table. It only cost $98 which was much cheaper than any patio set we liked. All I had to do was put some water sealer on it, and then my boys set it up. It couldn't have been easier!
Meet Joey's best friend (well, other than his puppy). His friend down the street has a red motorcycle, and Joey was obsessed with it. I looked on Craig's List and, lo and behold, I found the exact one, just in green. I thought once Joey owned it he would get bored with it quickly. Um, not so much. He rides it all around and would probably sleep with it if we let him.

When we are driving in the car he shouts out, "Mo-mo!" and "Vroom!" every time he sees a motorcycle. I have visions of him when he's older dressed in black leather and riding with a motorcycle gang. I'm a little nervous.
Pinky and her kids are on vacation in L.A. this week, so last night I drove up to have dinner with them and Grant, Kelly, and little Kendall. Andy couldn't make it because it's crunch time at work, and he was already going to be missing work today for the U.S. Open in Torrey Pines. I was planning on leaving Joey with my parents since I knew I wouldn't be home until late, but I got a call from Pinky's daughter, C, saying that really wasn't an option and I had to bring him.

We met at BJ's Brewhouse on Balboa Island and had some amazing Chicago style deep dish pizza. Yum! After dinner we walked out on the pier and played a little on the beach.

While this isn't the most captivating account of our fun night, I'm so glad that, for once, I'm the first one to blog about it!
You know your child is going through the "terrible twos" when he is playing by himself and you overhear him yelling, "No! Mine!"
