Joey's Pitching Debut

Joey pitched in his first little league game the other night. His team was down several runs due to our pitchers walking thirteen batters. Our poor guys just couldn't throw strikes. So they brought Joey in to pitch in the bottom of the 5th inning. This was his first time pitching to batters, ever. He did remarkably well. He struck out the first batter he faced, and ended up striking out three batters in one inning of work. It was cute, and he was pretty stoked.

Joey is on the young side for his league, so he's not what you'd call a hard thrower. He was throwing strikes, but they were coming so slow the batters didn't know what to do with them. After he threw a couple pitches that were especially slow, one of the coaches shouted, "Now give him the change-up." It got a good chuckle from the crowd.

After a night of so many walks, Joey's coaches were thrilled with how he did, and they were so sweet and encouraging to him. Needless to say, Andy was quite the proud papa!
